From road beds to construction sites, AMCO’s offset discs are breaking new ground

Across the U.S.A., construction season is in full swing. As construction companies and land-clearing contractors prepare to clear ground for job sites and break up road beds, many will be looking to purchase new construction equipment or upgrade existing equipment.

“AMCO has developed offset harrows to suit a range of construction needs, from lighter weight options to real heavy-hitters,” said AMCO Marketing Manager Michael Atwood. “We’ve gained a reputation in the construction industry as manufacturers of rugged, durable construction harrows. Construction equipment is exposed to stressful conditions, including repeated heavy-duty use, impacts, moisture, sunlight and extreme weather conditions. We know that downtime on the job site is costly, so our harrows are made to last.”

All AMCO’s construction harrows clear land by cutting through trash and mixing, aerating and leveling the soil. After AMCO’s harrows are manufactured, they are given a powder-coat finish, which is more than twice as durable as a wet-paint finish, offers better coverage and holds up under rugged conditions.

The G2 Wheel Offset Harrow is ideal for the toughest conditions, such as breaking up new ground.

For the toughest conditions—for example, heavily wooded site preparation by a parks and recreation department that requires cutting through underbrush—the G2 Wheel Offset Harrow is the ideal tool. It is also fully capable of working new ground, which has never been broken before.

The G2 is available with impressive 36″ x ½″ thick cutout blades and offers cutting widths up to over 20 feet wide. To handle the force the G2 applies per blade, AMCO and a local manufacturer designed an oversized hydraulic cylinder with special clevis that lifts the harrow into transport position on dual wheels. This cylinder adds durability to the massive G2 design.

“The G2 cuts into ground 18″, which gets to the roots and moves more dirt than other products,” added Atwood. “Also, you can’t beat the scraper system on the G2. It has a welded scraper system with a curved moldboard, which keeps blades free from debris.”

The J42 Wheel Offset Harrow, while still a heavy-duty tool, is ideal for smaller, less demanding projects such as breaking up road beds.

AMCO’s J42, J43 and J44 Wheel Offset Harrows are construction discs that are available in small-frame and large-frame options. The J42 Wheel Offset Harrow, while still a heavy-duty tool, is ideal for smaller, less demanding projects such as breaking up road beds. Featuring high-carbon, cold-rolled 1½″ steel square axles, the standard unit comes with 24″ diameter x 1/4″ thick plain blades with diminishing leveling blades. The J42 features heat-treated spring steel scraper shanks, replaceable high-carbon steel scraper blades, and extra-heavy-duty scraper bars. Depending on the size of the unit, its outrigger frame measures 16’6″ through 20’6″, and it weighs 179 to 208 pounds per blade.

The J42 Wheel Offset Harrow, while still a heavy-duty tool, is ideal for smaller, less demanding projects such as breaking up road beds. The J43 and J44 Wheel Offset Harrows have all the same features as the J42, with extra features that enable them to perform more heavy-duty work.

The J42, J43 and J44 can also be used in farming to cut and size residue, eliminate clumps, and loosen packed soil to help prepare the ideal seedbed.
